Graduate School Scholarship: Application Process

Graduate School Scholarship – Students can receive graduate fellowships and scholarships for their additional education. Graduate students at prestigious universities are given some scholarships.

For international and overseas students, numerous institutions and organizations provide graduate fellowships and scholarships.

These graduate school scholarships are available both nationally and internationally, and they are based both on merit and financial need.
Eligibility of Graduate School Scholarship

The eligibility requirements for graduate school scholarships can vary depending on the specific scholarship and its funding source. However, some common eligibility criteria include:Academic excellence: A minimum GPA, frequently 3.0 or better, is often required for scholarships. Additionally, some scholarships could specify a degree or area of study for applicants.
Test results: For some scholarships, candidates must submit test results from exams like the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT.
Financial need: Some scholarships are awarded based on applicants’ ability to pay, and they may ask candidates to provide proof of their income and assets.
Status as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident may be required for some scholarships, while international students may be eligible for others.
The Difference Among Scholarships, Grants, and Fellowships for Graduate Students

Scholarships for graduate school are offered by many institutions, businesses, governments, and more. Regardless of whether they are merit- or need-based, you must apply for them.

Graduate school grants are similar to scholarships in that you are not required to pay them back. Know the terms of each award since you may be required to repay some or all of it if you drop out of school or else fail to remain eligible for it.

Grants are need-based and sometimes related to your intended field, in contrast to scholarships, which are frequently merit-based.

Graduate student fellowships typically refer to a temporary opportunity to study or do research in a particular area. Awarded for academic performance, they may also involve a service project or internship, cover living expenses, or provide a stipend. Most graduate-level fields provide fellowship opportunities.

More Ways to Find Graduate School Scholarship

States, businesses, organizations, and more offer scholarships. Regardless of whether they are merit- or need-based, you must apply for them.

Graduate students frequently receive smaller scholarship awards than undergraduate students, but these sums can add up.

It is possible that the cost of living may decrease from $1,000 to $2,000 per month. You can tailor the search for graduate school scholarships in a number of ways, as follows:By school: To entice students with the best academic records, several colleges provide scholarships to graduate students from their own finances. You can learn about these changes through your school or program.
By field: If you’re enrolling in a program where your area of expertise is underrepresented—particularly in the STEM fields—concentrate on graduate scholarships from businesses, trade associations, and foundations.
According to demographics: graduate school grants are offered to a variety of groups, including women and racial and ethnic minorities such as African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and Native Americans. Students, foster children, first-generation college students, and non-traditional students with cognitive and physical disabilities can also access them.
By region: National scholarships frequently receive more attention. However, don’t forget to look for graduate student scholarships in your native state or region—a smaller applicant pool can improve your chances. For more information, you can reach out to the Department of Education in your state.
Tips for Applying for Graduate School ScholarshipsBe systematic. You can utilize the essay questions you’ve already answered in other applications, so keep track of them.
Don’t confine yourself. Think about the criteria you used as an undergraduate in addition to scholarships that are particular to your field. Find graduate school scholarships by expanding your search and looking for them based on your geography, ethnicity, interest, place of worship, or hobbies.
Make a budget for your scholarship. Even though looking for graduate scholarships is free, you may need to pay for some application materials, such as transcripts. When paying for these documents, remember to stay within your financial means.
Some of the Graduate Scholarship

The few graduate scholarships listed here are available for everyone to look through and apply for. However, each has unique requirements for awarding the scholarship.
McNair Graduate Fellowships

For incoming graduate school applicants who have either finished a McNair Undergraduate Scholars program or who are McNair eligible, i.e., low-income (as defined by the US Department of Education), McNair Graduate Fellowships are available.

A first-generation college student is also someone who belongs to a community that hasn’t had a lot of representation in graduate programs (for example, people who are Hispanic, African American, Native American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander).

While any graduate student, whether enrolled or not, may be recommended for this fellowship, consideration is given to those who have successfully completed a McNair program and have been admitted to The University of Alabama‘s doctoral program.
Conference and Research Funding

Graduate-level research projects and travel to conferences to discuss research findings are supported in part by the Graduate School. One conference request and one research request are the most that students may submit each year (a “year” is defined as Fall/Spring/Summer).

Students can submit requests to the Graduate School starting on March 20, 2023, by logging onto the UA Grad Student Portal. Students should choose “Funding” and then “CRF Request Form” after logging in. To fill out the form, adhere to the on-screen instructions.
Alumni Heritage Graduate Scholarship (AHGS)

For qualified graduate students enrolled in graduate programs at particular universities, the Alumni Heritage Graduate Financial (AHGS) program is a merit-based financial program.

Threefold PurposeTo enlist the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the University of Alabama graduates.
To expressly tell our graduates that “we want your children.”
To give UA graduates the practical perk of membership in the Alumni Association.
