Navajo Nation Scholarship Programme Application Details
The Navajo Nation scholarship is one of the many scholarships that provide financial aid intended to assist students in covering the cost of an undergraduate degree. Get to know more about this scholarship by reading on.
About Navajo Nation Scholarship
Members of the Navajo Nation who are enrolled have the opportunity to pursue their academic goals thanks to the Office of Navajo Nation Scholarship & Financial Assistance (ONNSFA).
The ONNSFA, originally known as the Navajo Higher Education Office, was established in 1972 as a result of a P.L. 93-638 contract between the Navajo Nation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs to administer the Higher Education Grant.
The ONNFA is housed inside the Department of Diné Education.
The Funding Sources
The Navajo Nation, trust funds, businesses, and federal cash through the Higher Education Grant are some of the sources of financial aid and scholarships that are disbursed by the ONNSFA.
In 2018, the ONNSFA provided more than $24 million in financial aid and scholarships to over 6,000 students pursuing college degrees or certificates.
Eligibility: Required Documents
1. Application: Applicants must submit a complete application for the upcoming term. Access the online form by going to www.onnsfa.org.
2. Official Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB): All new applicants must hand deliver or send an official Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) to the agency office.
Continuing applicants are not required to submit a new official CIB if one is already on file unless there is a legal name change.
You might find a form here that you can use to request that the ONNSFA receive your official CIB from the Office of Vital Records.
3. Official Transcripts: All official college transcripts, GED results, and sealed unopened high school transcripts must be delivered in person or mailed to an agency office.
The ONNSFA accepts official electronic transcripts (e-transcripts) delivered by a school’s recognized delivery service, such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse, and that have been digitally certified.
For the purposes of establishing a student’s eligibility for financial assistance or awards, any other submission of a transcript to ONNSFA is regarded as “unofficial” and will not be taken into account.
4. Financial Needs Analysis Students who wish to enroll full-time must complete and submit a Financial Need Analysis form to the institution’s financial assistance office.
A financial aid officer at your institution will complete the form and return it to the ONNSFA using the information from the FAFSA.
All students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A student’s listed colleges and/or career schools will receive information from the FAFSA.
NOTE: Prior to completing an FNA, some institutions request additional signatures from students. Make sure your FNA is handled quickly by checking with your institution.
5. Letter of Admission: A letter of admission or re-admission must be issued by the institution the applicant plans to attend.
The institution’s accreditation must be granted by one of the six regional accrediting bodies that the ONNSFA has recognized. Page 5 of the Policies & Procedures of ONNSFA has a list.
Graduate applicants are required to provide two letters, one from the graduate college and the other from the graduate degree program, both of which must indicate full admission status.
It is necessary to produce proof of enrollment for students who have already submitted a Letter of Admission but have not been financially supported for at least one term.
6. Students applying for graduation from college who are juniors, seniors, or graduates must submit a list of all the courses they need to take to earn the degree they want to pursue. The checklist must be signed by an advisor and include the “anticipated” graduation date.
7. Class Schedule: Part-time applicants must submit a copy of their most current class schedule. It is recommended that full-time applicants submit a current class schedule or sign up for classes.
Applicants may submit the admission letter, the checklist for earning a degree, and the class schedule to their student account in the student portal.
A pdf file format is required for all files. The agency office must receive all other papers in person or via mail.
