NYSC Director-General Emphasizes Role in Youth Transformation for National Development

The event in Abuja, themed "Tackling the Emerging Challenges in Mobilization of Foreign-Trained Graduates for Effective National Service," addressed concerns about the mobilization of foreign-trained graduates. Brigadier General Ahmed expressed concern about some educational institutions compromising on quality to maximize financial gains, deviating from the NYSC's ideals.








In a recent address at a meeting with some corps-producing institutions in Africa, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, highlighted the NYSC's commitment to molding youths for national unity and development. Emphasizing core values such as discipline, honesty, probity, accountability, hard work, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance, Brigadier General Ahmed stressed the pivotal role of the NYSC scheme in shaping the character and skills of the nation's youth.



The event in Abuja, themed "Tackling the Emerging Challenges in Mobilization of Foreign-Trained Graduates for Effective National Service," addressed concerns about the mobilization of foreign-trained graduates. Brigadier General Ahmed expressed concern about some educational institutions compromising on quality to maximize financial gains, deviating from the NYSC's ideals.

Looking ahead, the Director-General announced plans to extend the collection of masterlists of graduates to countries like Niger Republic, Cameroon, Ghana, and Uganda, constituting about 20% of graduates from the African continent. This move aims to enhance the verification process and curb the faking of academic and travel documents.



To overcome challenges in mobilizing foreign-trained Nigerian graduates, the NYSC is instituting measures such as requiring schools in Benin Republic, Togo, Cameroon, and Niger Republic to submit project-bound masterlists of their graduates each service year. This practice, already in place for Nigerian schools, has proven effective in streamlining the mobilization process.

Brigadier General Ahmed stressed the collective responsibility in fighting against unwholesome practices in the educational sector and affirmed the NYSC's commitment to addressing emerging challenges.



In her introductory address, the Director of Corps Mobilization, Walida Isa, assured that the NYSC would continue to engage countries aligning with global best practices and NYSC mobilization protocols.
