A female teacher from Lagos public school, who recently won the African Union Best Teacher Prize, Adeola Adefemi, has again emerged as one of the top 10 finalists for this year’s Maltina Teacher-of-the Year(MToY) Award crown.
Adefemi, an English language teacher at Keke Senior High School, Agege,
is shortlisted alongside nine others for the final stage of the competition from a pool of 1,499 teachers, who submitted entries for the award this year nationwide.
Nine others include Gilamdo Yohanna Kwem of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Adamawa; Azuh Chike Emmanuel of Ezemu Girls Grammar School, Delta State; Melvina Kelechi Igboanugo from Roseville Secondary School, Enugu State; Ajibola Temidayo Oluwagbenga from Premiere Academy, Abuja and Daniel Ochonu, from Dutse Model International Secondary School, Jigawa; Sussan Uchegbu, from Bristow International Academy, Kano; Abubakar Sani Adam from Barewa College, Zaria, Kaduna; Adam Abdulqadir Nda of Model Science College, Niger State and Nwagbo Nnaemeka Christopher, from The Ambassadors College, Ogun State.
Maltina 2023 Teachers AwardMToY Award is an annual competition organised and sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc under its social corporate arm, NB-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, for teachers in both public and private secondary schools across the country. The competition with this year’s edition ninth in the series, is free and voluntary to all teachers.
Now, all the 10 finalists, who had scaled through the first and second hurdles of the contest will now undergo a formal interview and assessment with the independent panel of jurists to determine who MToY Award crown for this year’s best fit and the second and third place winners.
Speaking on the emergence of the10 finalists, the Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs. Sade Morgan, commended the panel of judges for their service and dedication to the initiative, wishing all the contestants the best.
She also appreciated the vital role played by long standing partners, particularly the Federal Ministry of Education, Lagos State Government, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigeria Union of Teachers as well as the 2023 co-sponsors-Air Peace and Stanbic IBTC.
She disclosed that the overall winner and the first and second runners-up would all be unveiled and rewarded at an award ceremony billed to hold in Lagos on Friday October 20.
